Sweet, with a lingering salty tingle.

Our Review

We couldn't wait to review this whisky, the Campbeltown Springbank 10 Year old Single Malt Whisky.

Matured in bourbon casks as well as sherry casks, it is decribed as a classic example of the Campbeltown style.

It is the perfect combination of what to look for in a single malt. Bottled at 46% abv, non chill filtered and natural colour, with an average retail price of £42.45, its no suprise that for value, it scores an incredible 95.76 in a value score.

As a 10 year old, we were suprised that the spirit didn't appear young or the abv too hot. On the nose it instantly appeared fruity, whether that is apple or pears is a subjective choice, but it was one of them, a touch of vanilla but that disappears and the unmistakable note of peat covers it, is there vanilla there? its a fruity sweet peat on the nose.

On the palate its has the unmistakable Campbeltown salty peaty tang, but its sweet with a spicey fruit, some cinammon and possibly nutmeg, but this taste gives way to a salt sweet peat finish which is long lasting and reminiscent of a Talisker 10 year old with its maritime influence. Vanilla isn't forward on the palate if its there, its dwarfed by the other notes.

Adding water enhances the sweet peat making the experience even more pleasurable. The exact fruit on the nose and palate is eluding us, but it is enjoyable.

We have to score it 89 out of 100 for its nose and palate experience. It is an incredible whisky very deserving of its score and an excellent value whisky that deserves to hold its place in our collection.
