Aerolite Lyndsay 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

Aerolite Lyndsay is a ten year old peated single malt from an undisclosed distillery on Islay. Our blenders showcase the best of the liquid by resting it in bourbon barrels and Spanish oak sherry quarter casks.

A bold whisky, with an independent and complex character, perfect for indulging in with friends, or alone.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Lots of maritime peat, with notes of iodine intertwined with honey sweetness, paprika, salted caramel and old bookshelves.

Palate: Smoke returns alongside mint dark chocolate, espresso and new leather, with honey and soy sauce mixed together.

Finish: Boiled mint sweeties, liquorice allsorts, bonfire smoke and toffee penny, with a pinch of salt.

We are reviewing a 30ml sample that was part of the Master of Malt/ Drinks by the Dram, fathers day gift sample pack. Aerolite Lyndsay is one of currently three whiskies created under the 'Character of Islay Whisky Company' which is an Atom owned brand, the same company who own and operate both Master of Malt and Drinks by the Dram.

Aerolite Lyndsay is quite a unique name, I actually quite like the name, which is an anagram of '10 Year Old Islay'. Bottled at 46% ABV, its also non chill filtered and has natural colour. We don't know which distillery produces this whisky, but it has an average retail price of £43.45 and a value score 95.66 out of 100.

Matured in ex-bourbon and sherry quarter casks.
On the nose; the first note is a typical phenolic and TCP one, similar to Laphroaig 10. Then there is a maritime influence of some sea spray and salt. It is fruity sweet with some caramel sweetness. There is also a nice dusty note.

On the palate; My initial thoughts were this tastes of a Laphroaig, but as the whisky moved into the development phase, it became more typical of an Ardbeg 10.
You notice the smoke first, but this isnt too dominate as some of the honey sweet vanilla comes through which helps to bind the flavour profile. It is like bacon covered in soy sauce, it is quite dry with tannins and brine, initially the fruit from the sherry doesn't really show. There is chocolate on the dry and bitter finish.

The Peat and Smoke isn't too heavy, however it is not a beginner whisky. I would class this as an intermediate level of whisky for people who have introduced them to gateway whiskies with smoke or peat, this would possibly be a step up before a Laphroaig 10 or Ardbeg 10.

For the price you could purchese either of the two Islays mentioned, so why would you consider this? We didn't review this whisky with the addition of water, which does help the fruit notes express themself, so maybe our review should have included a water addition. But it is a nice tasting dram and definetly worth a try, but we wouldn't buy one unless it was available with a heftier discount. We give it an overall score of 85 out of 100
